Zayed University, Abu Dhabi (UAE), 2011

When designing the building for Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, Hadi Teherani and his team (BRT Architects) created a large, sculptural solitaire. His design combines futuristic architecture, engineering ingenuity, and traditional elements from the area. The roof is reminiscent of a veil and conjures up an image of the desert sand moving in the wind.

Aquatics Centre, London (UK), 2011

The aquatics venue designed by Zaha Hadid Architects is one of the spectacular structures that was erected for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In her architectural concept, the architect was inspired by the flowing movement of the water, borrowing from the riverscape of the Olympic Park.

Harpa Reykjavík concert hall and conference centre (IS), 2011

Reykjavík has a new landmark: the Harpa concert hall and conference center. The angular building with its gleaming glass facade situated in the harbor reflects a wide variety of lighting atmospheres depending on the weather conditions and is an architectural attraction.

Salewa headquarters, Bozen (IT), 2011

The sporting goods manufacturer Salewa, based in Bolzano (Italy), has built a new company headquarters. Like a mountain, the complex stretches along the valley landscape. The facade is made up of perforated aluminum panels in shades of blue and gray and a curtain of glass. The architectural highlight is the large glassed-in climbing hall with a view to the mountains.

Hotel Bella Sky, Copenhagen (DN), 2011

The Hotel Bella Sky in Copenhagen is currently the largest hotel in Scandinavia. The 76-meter-tall landmark boasts a special feature: To ensure hotel guests have the best view possible, the two towers incline at an impressive 15-degree angle. The building was designed by 3XN architects.
