Al Bahar Towers, Abu Dhabi (UAE), 2012

An outer skin comprising 2,099 cream-colored, translucent elements covers the facade of the Al Bahar Towers in Abu Dhabi. The inspiration for this computer-controlled shading screen was the traditional Arabian latticework known as “mashrabiya”. This solution has resulted in the sustainable towers featuring a reduction in energy consumption of around 50 percent.

The public library in Birmingham designed by Mecanoo is currently the largest library in Western Europe. The voluminous complex blends prominently into the urban context thanks to its transparent, colored facade featuring a filigree pattern of decorative steel rings.

SwissTech Convention Center, Lausanne (CH), 2014

The new SwissTech Convention Center at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne is one of the most modern convention centers in the world. Hotel Parkroyal on Pickering, Singapore (SG), 2013

In contrast to the strictly orthogonal high-rises in Singapore, the hotel Parkroyal on Pickering impresses with its organic structural form. The building consists of four towers and shoots up from a multi-story podium and wildly undulating, fully landscaped terraces.

“De Rotterdam”, Rotterdam (NL), 2013

At 150 meters tall and just under 100 meters wide, the high-rise ensemble “De Rotterdam” is the largest building in the Netherlands in terms of floor area and the new landmark in the Kop van Zuid neighborhood in Rotterdam. Architect Rem Koolhaas broke up the colossal appearance of the skyscraper by segmenting it into different building structures.
