Mapress on the Baltic Sea
Jantar Unity Ferry (PL)

It is a special moment when, on 17 January 2026, a bottle of champagne is smashed against the bow of the "Jantar Unity": the ship, almost 200 metres long, is the first of its kind to be built in Poland for decades. Also on board: Geberit.

The “Jantar Unity” is the first of three new car and passenger ferries for the Unity Line shipping company. It operates between Świnoujście in Poland and Trelleborg in Sweden, can accommodate up to 400 passengers and offers around 200 cabins. With a loading length of 4,100 metres, it can transport more than 240 semi-trailers. The two sister ships are due to enter service later this year and in 2028 respectively.

Sustainable, quiet propulsion

Technologically, the “Jantar Unity” sets new standards. Its advanced liquefied natural gas hybrid propulsion system is supported by batteries and significantly reduces both exhaust emissions and noise. This enables stable and economical operation, even under challenging conditions – an important factor in the Baltic Sea, where weather and sea conditions can change rapidly.

During construction, Unity Line placed great emphasis on ensuring that the approximately seven-hour crossing feels like a short cruise for passengers: bright interiors, comfortable cabins, as well as restaurants, cafés and lounges for families and other travellers make the journey itself part of the experience – not just a link between two ports.

Geberit Mapress for reliable supply

Below deck, the Geberit Mapress supply system is used, including Geberit Mapress Copper for the drinking water installations and Mapress carbon steel pipes. On ships, such installations are exposed to constant vibrations, high humidity and intensive use. Robust materials and secure connections are essential here. Geberit Mapress is versatile and designed for durability – characteristics that have proven themselves in countless installations worldwide and will now also perform reliably on the Baltic Sea aboard the "Jantar Unity".
