A regional landmark

Méca, Bordeaux (FR)

The intention is for the MÉCA to be a “new laboratory for the arts” in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in south-west France. The experts from BIG have framed this approach perfectly with a major architectural gesture.

At 120 metres long and 37 metres high, the new landmark in Bordeaux is a real eye-catcher. Located centrally between the Garonne and Saint-Jean railway station, the Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine (or MÉCA for short) can be seen from miles around.

A meeting place
The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) from Denmark designed the art centre as a modern triumphal arch, with various ramps and staircases leading to its raised passage. Inside, the new landmark in Bordeaux covers a floor area of 18,000 m2 – ample space for achieving its intended purpose as a hub for the arts and a meeting place. Three regional cultural institutions have already moved in here. They use the generous space on offer for events, workshops or exhibitions, and also provide studios for artists in residence.

Design meets Function

The iCon bathroom series is characterised by a comprehensive range of ceramic appliances and bathroom furniture in a modern design with timeless elegance. It offers the perfect products for both large and small bathrooms, plus different individual requirements. This was also the case in the sanitary facilities at MÉCA, where wall-hung Geberit iCon Rimfree toilets were installed.
