Mastering the data jungle

From SAP Expert to Head of IT Business Support Applications

Where others can’t see the wood for the trees, Marius Reck maintains the best possible perspective. Together with his team, he trawls through the tangled undergrowth of data in the various IT systems and his role now allows him to exert an influence on the Geberit IT strategy.

“Geberit has always been a part of my life since I was a child. It might sound a little bit corny, but it is true. This is because my uncle managed a plumbing company, at which I had a number of holiday jobs back in the day. It was clear that I would encounter Geberit at every turn working there. It was also clear that I wanted to work at Geberit myself one day.

My career started in a very typical way in 2004 with the dual degree programme at Geberit in Pfullendorf (DE). There, I took care of the SAP applications in logistics. Later, I was assigned to roll out SAP at Geberit in China. With this international experience under my belt, I of course wanted more – and so it was that I went to work for Geberit in the US in 2014, spending three years there. I was initially tasked with taking care of the SAP roll-out and IT support, but I was soon utilised in more varied work as the IT Manager.

Gaining experience working abroad in an international company was completely worthwhile for me. As once I returned to Germany, I took on the role of Head of Reporting and HCM Applications. In this role, I was no longer only working for the German office, but for the entire Geberit Group.

Back then – and still to this day– I was fascinated by the fact that I had so much freedom to test out and press ahead with rolling out new and innovative concepts within the IT systems. This allowed me and my colleagues to bring the Geberit IT systems up to a high level and keep them there. Our success can be measured by the reactions we constantly get from experts when we present our system landscape and processes as part of reference visits or at events. What’s more, I have always been given opportunities and had the trust placed in me to showcase my abilities. Due to the continuous changes and challenges, I have never been bored, even 16 years after I first joined Geberit. And I am confident that the current projects I am working on, particularly those related to the cloud, will ensure that nothing will change in this respect over the next 16 years.

In addition to the areas I have looked after in the past – HCM and Analytics&Planning – I am now also responsible for Finance and Controlling. In this role, I help the business areas make their processes more efficient with IT solutions. I am also a member of the IT Executive Management Team and play an active and direct part in determining the IT strategy and vision.”
