Strong start to the megaproject

Ellinikon in Athens is one of the largest residential construction projects in Europe. The first buildings have been erected. Geberit has been an important partner right from the start.
Ellinikon is nothing less than one of the largest residential construction projects in Europe - a completely new neighbourhood is being built on the former Athens airport site. One sub-project after another is currently emerging on the site. “Geberit is part of the very first project and also of the very second,“ says Vasiliki Sfika, Head of Geberit in Greece. The very first building – owned by the municipality of Hellinikon-Argyroupoli - is a sports centre for disabled children. The very second: luxury flats directly on the beach.
WCs and washbasins
The sports centre is built and occupied. Four individual houses, each with three floors, built with plenty of natural light and as barrier-free as possible, are intended to convey a feeling of safety and security. The buildings were designed by Betaplan architects, with Lamda Development as the developer, EKTER as main contractor and Vasilis Gerakitis responsible for the sanitary installations.
The architecture and development team placed a strong focus on the toilets - and opted for various Geberit products. The rimless iCon toilets are just as much a part of the installations as VariForm washbasins. Selnova Comfort toilets and washbasins were used for the barrier-free area. “The architects and client have been working with us for a long time - it was an obvious choice for them to go with Geberit,“ says Vasiliki Sfika.
Ellinikon got off to a flying start with the sports centre. It continues in quick succession - currently with the Cove Residences. The 500 or so bathrooms in the new luxury flats on the beach are being fitted with Geberit concealed cisterns. “Some of them have already been delivered. Of course, we hope that our ceramics will also be used. Because that's how the toilet system is most effective.“
The big buildings are coming up
Vasiliki Sfika is expecting the biggest construction boom in the project next year. The construction of several large shopping centres is due to start, as well as the Hard Rock Resort and casino and the future landmark of Ellinikon, the Riviera Tower skyscraper. “We have already had Pluvia and SuperTube calculations carried out for the drainage systems here,“ says Vasiliki Sfika.
The Geberit office, which opened last year and is located a stone's throw away from Ellinikon, is very helpful. For Vasiliki Sfika, one thing is clear: “This proximity helps to maintain good customer relationships on site.“
