Ricola building, Laufen (CH)
Opened since mid-2014, Ricola’s Herb Center in Laufen near Basel processes no less than 1,400,000 kilograms of herbs each year. As impressive as that might sound, it’s even more so when you consider that the new building in question is a loam hut. In order to ensure that it can withstand the elements, the architects at Herzog & de Meuron also used marl, gravel and lime in addition to the loam.
