Experience practice at last
An internship at Geberit means more than just watching. You take on responsibility, work on real projects and transform theory into practicable solutions. Three experience reports provide an insight into the practical side of things.
Valentin Egli
Profile
After completing my Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, I went on to study for a Master's degree in Management, Technology & Economics. This included an internship of at least ten weeks, which I completed at Geberit in Rapperswil-Jona in 2024. This was my first stop in the world of work, where I was able to put the theory I had learned into practice.
My project at Geberit
I carried out two pilot projects for my master's thesis. Firstly, I investigated the effects and ideal intervals of maintenance and servicing work on production systems. Secondly, I developed specific measures to make work processes leaner and more efficient and to make even better use of space in production.
My findings
The internship and the project work had a big impact on me. I learned that theory only takes you so far. The literature research provided an overview, but the direct exchange with employees on site was much more instructive and enriching. New things are easier to implement if everyone involved understands why they are necessary and what they can change for the better. I have been a participant in Geberit's ODP young talent program since October 2025 and work as a project manager for products at the Langenfeld plant.

Profile
I am curious, helpful and inquisitive by nature. I want to understand how things work. It doesn't matter whether it's a machine, a system or an app on my smartphone. After completing my two master's degrees in manufacturing and engineering technology, I joined Geberit in Ekenäs in 2024 as a GPS intern (short for Geberit Production Systems).
My project at Geberit
I looked at the material flow path in assembly and packaging processes and defined solutions for saving time in order to improve material availability and make the work steps more efficient and ergonomic. Thanks to new buffer racks and a Kanban system in which material provision is triggered by consumption, packaging material, for example, is more clearly organized and always available. This saves time. Heavy products can now be packed more safely and ergonomically using lifting aids.

Shayaan Ahmed
Profile
After completing my master's degree in production engineering in Ireland and Finland, I started as a maintenance intern at Geberit in January 2025. This gave me the opportunity to work on process improvements in practice and take on responsibility. I learned a lot about ceramic manufacturing. I now work as a maintenance coordinator. In this role, I am responsible for process optimization and quality control in order to continuously improve the productivity of the entire plant.
My project at Geberit
As a maintenance intern, I focused on two projects: I helped to further develop a digital system for planning, documenting and analyzing maintenance work on machines. All relevant information on maintenance tasks should be available transparently and comprehensibly in one central location. Secondly, I pursued the goal of organizing the spare parts warehouse more clearly so that spare parts are available more quickly, maintenance times are shortened and unnecessary ordering costs can be minimized.
My findings
During these six months, I further developed my technical knowledge and learned to appreciate the corporate culture and collaboration. I realized that efficient and workable solutions are mainly achieved with long-term, structured planning and a data-driven approach. The project responsibilities also made me personally more organized and self-confident and I am also proud of my successes.
